The Saddest part about all this is Lee Sodol's retirement from the game,. Just becuase of AlphaGo ššš
plot twist: AlphaGo was told to play weak by game 4.

The mental progress of Lee Sedol is so well depicted in this documentary.
Game 1: "I will win 5-0", while in fact he doesn't know what he is up against.
Game 2 and 3: The pressure of the need to salvage the match and an increasing realization of what he is up against. Him not playing his own game is proof of that.
Game 4: Acceptance. He plays his own game, depending on his own strengths. By doing that he comes up with move 78 making the winning move.
Game 5: AlphaGo leaves no question of who is the strongest.
I think go will have a same route like chess where the computer will help the player better understand the game of go and therefore be an extension of the player.
Thanks for the documentary.
The enemies gate is down.
Now get it to play the "game of life" from the book, In the court of the Crimson Kings.
How beautifully this documentary aged huh haha!
When they were relishing that they destroyed a man's life. I'm not sure engineers are particularly moral. They just want to build powerful things. It makes me question if we can achieve true alignment with ASI.
Who came here after Gemini announcement lol
rewatching this, with the gemini "faking" scandal in the back of my mind, i am realy disapointed in still not investing in trust with the consumer. Just sad that a big corp like Google is still to rigid for pushing a inovative product on the bleeding edge.
I finally phrased what it was Lee Sedol must've realized during those three games.
He knew then that he was the world's best, not because he was perfect, but because humans are not perfect. He had never seen the roof of skill before, and thought he had already reached it, only to have the carpet swept out from underneath his feet.
The AI was told to play a game. Not to win or lose. Humans decided to fold. It was not told to win, if it had there would never have been a "dumb move" made nor a door opened as in Game 4.
Lee Sedol and Fan Hui are exceptional human beings with an inspiringly resilient and humble hearts. So much respect and gratitude for them both.
i wonder if time could be adjusted base don calculation power differentce btw human and machine
One of the exceptional documentary i have ever watched
I study AI as a policy student. I have read countless literature about AI, automation, digitalization, and the 4IR. Its safe to say that the world has to restructure itself from a socio-cultural level to prepare ourselves for the armageddon of AI. The current government structure is useless and major paradigm shifts need to happen in governance. If we go as we do now, it is safe to say we are doomed.
Ironically, a book i read mentions the Alpha-Go and Lee Sedols match. Its safe to say Ada Lovelace was wrong and AI engineers are leading humanity to a dangerous point and the government is too slow to respond.
The probability of winning by taking each step is matter if one step stepped wrong then whole game change
So happy and so sad for this. I hope he was helped through this, his contribution has been so huge.
Just an incredible and emotional documentary
I think Lee Sedol winning once against AlphaGo is equivalent to Magnus Carlsen winning once against AlphaZero.. He is a true genius!
wtf is paddy pimblet doing in the office at 6:05
I feel like they ether target the specific player or paid him to throw it, the scientist smug smile after made me feel like the got away with some bs idk why, but just a feeling
Thore Graepel explains how AlphaGo works at 47:14.
i'm not cryingā¦AlphaGo is crying!
Surely when you can benchmark the board positions against 1000ās of previous games, and can look at outcomes 50 moves ahead, that is processing power and not āintelligenceā as such.

it was so emotional to watch the documentary. I was wondering about day-after-tomorrow.
1:08:45 this whole scene is unsettling. Why would an AI choose to play an un-optimized move? That feels like a very human decision to play for fun
AI highlighted the essence of humanity
In my next meet up with friends i am gonna tell them i cried watching a machine beat a human in a cardboard game "Go".
15:00 it was 4-1 alright, just not in way he thought. lol
Great documentary, dangerous invention
I love how everyone is using Linux here š
Literally I m crying its an awesome documentary love tech
I wonder whether AlphaGO was still on 'learning / try new things' mode during the match ? This might explain why the moves became a bit hay-wire ? Maybe play in solid state in the future š lol I think it's hilarious how everyone is thinking 'Wow', the machine can play Go and I'm thinking 'What happens when AI is trusted the whole world over, we have replaced our brains, our immune systems and internal organ functions with AI and it suddenly pronounces that life is futile and we're all going to die in 2032 ! We won't argue, we won't show stick-a-bility like Lee Sodol. We will all go to the pharmacy and buy our packs of instant death because we believe in the tech 100%. I'm in my late 50's, so I doubt it will affect me, but good luck to all you who have been looking for a new God to follow ā¦
It's not a human endeavor.
Rick Rubin brought me here.
Iām more impressed with the human. We are truly unique. We have something special a dumb AI could never have. And we are the creators of the AI.
amazing documentary~
Hmm, quite boring documentary.
5 years later,
Adversarial Go Attacks
literally AI missing what would have been captured by some 7 years old.
As a computer engineer AlphoGo is the work of art, but I was deeply happy when Lee Sedol wins the fourth game. Beyond developing deep learning , we have to research and know the threshold that deep net is under control of human being.
