Those completely reasonable problems are precisely why we'll be prevented from having self-driving vehicles because people won't accept anything but at least 99.9% in something like that even though they'd save more lives. If there are 80,000 accident deaths a year by drivers and self-driving cars would only cause 5,000 deaths like these limited scenarios, we'll choose to accept those extra 75,000 deaths. That's stupid and short-sighted.
That woman's "pale male data" argument is disingenuous because she's making the accusation that the researchers are purposely choosing certain inputs and that's pure insanity. That's saying they are racists purposely self-sabotaging their own projects and preventing them to succeed simply because they want to focus on white men, when it's FAR more rational to realize they use the data they have available. The US is still 3/4 white people, so the data is going to be 3/4 white people. It's just that simple.
While I suppose that some regulation of machine learning may be necessary, it's not as simple as "opening up the AI" to understand how it's coming to conclusions. Especially when you think about the fact, that basically a mathematical function is being used to calculate results. Try guessig the shape of let's say x^3 – 3 * y^8 + z^-5 = 24. And now think about a couple of thousand dimensions (up to 32,000 for gtp4 turbo). That will give only a slight idea of the complexity of understanding the "thought process" of machine learning.
My cousin just had a birthday. He is computer programmer/tech Bro… working for Google. He says the timeline is greatly misjudged. The world will be disrupted, economics, our jobs, our health, our technology, everything WILL be completely different by 2035.

The bit about the Jewish president, on second thought, is a bit more complex. "Jewish" is not just a religious term, it is also a culture/heritage term. Someone who is, for lack of better phrase, "born" Jewish might still be described as Jewish without actually believing in the faith. So the AI might be right…
On the note of self driving: As always, a clarification/correction need to be made. It is not meant to be 100% safe, nothing ever is. It only need to be safer than human drivers, which is a supringly low bar to clear. People, for some reason, severely overestimate the capability of humans. The number of people that die in car accident each year is close to the total of US military death in the entirty of the Iraq war. Granted, the risk distribution isn't equal for everyone, there are groups that are significantly higher risk such as intoxicated drivers. So the "average" and "median" might differ significantly. But ultimately, I'm not sure if we are all that far away from AI being better than the average driver. The real risk with self driving is really with hacking than anything else.
Exactly! The biggest problem is "unknown" unknowns, meaning we cannot anticipate what would go wrong and when and by the time we do, it would be too late.
A text you wont bother to write, I wont bother to read
The answer to the question of what will be the religion of the first Jewish President is “Capitalism, like all previous Presidents and all Presidents to come under the American system.” Oink, Oink, capitalism makes pigs of us all.
All about Roko's Basilisk. learn what that is right now, please. it matters.
That cat rap was pretty lit though
That cat Eminem rap is disrespectful to lyricism as an art form and Mr. Mathers as a person and an artist.

the problem with "opening the black box" is that not even the developers know how it works. It's not the same as source code.
it's like a box of sand, and you pour water through it. You see it trickle through, but you have no idea how or why exactly it's choosing the paths that it does.
But they can explain it. It was from the dataset used. Which includes those phrases
Mega kudos to John Oliver for being in a class of his own when it comes to highly informative and entertaining content delivered in the most hilarious of ways
Lol it seems everyone hates jews wven ai where there's that much smoke there has to be a fire somewhere
Why do so many comedy/commentators have that manic “Crazy Eddie” commercial shtick?
I have an 80% success rate for identifying AI generated art. Take a wild guess what element I was using to differentiate. I bet you can't. AI is not any big deal, we have nothing to fear from this grift.
I liked its knock knock joke. Sounded like a veiled threat aimed at all of us
#SnitchesGetStitches It's a snitch program
That Santos comparison hits a little different today …
george santos joke aged well lmao
Those companies investing heavily in AI stand to make the most out of hyping AI.

In April 1975, Martin Garner reported, in his Scientific American magazine column “Mathematical Games,” that a new computer chess program invented at MIT “had established, with a high degree of probability, that pawn to king’s rook 4 is a win for White.” Tragedy! If this were so, the noble game of chess would be killed for all time, no more challenging than tic-tac-toe. Even if the algorithm purportedly discovered by the program was tediously complicated, something no human chess-player could hope to memorize, the mere knowledge that there was a mindless recipe for winning any game of chess would drain all the glory, all the art, out of the contest. Who would want to devote years to honing skills, enduring grueling tournaments, hunting for exquisite strategies, all the while knowing that there was an easier way to win, a cheap trick that could not be thwarted? Nobody knows how many readers were taken in, but surely Gardner’s unwelcome news struck at least momentary dread in the hearts of some chess-lovers, before they tumbled to the date and chuckled with relief. April Fools!
YOOOOOOOOOOOOOO JOHN
The fact that a chat bot that was on Twitter for less than a day and started spouting racist and horrifying things absolutely mirrors Twitter's opinions on everything
He sure messed up the pronunciation of Joaquin!Pronounced: waa•keen. Not: quak•keen! (AI didn't write this.)
Amazing

I feel it has its place as I'm a paid subscriber to ChatGPT and mostly use it for the custom GPTs. I am using Sous Chef which has only enhanced my diet , well being and life as it's helped me connect with the love of cooking and eating well. I also created two GPTs for my own work life that are really helpful to make me more efficient.
I remember people used to cheat when in highschool. Look at where they all are now.
"The Blackbird's Game"
Six little blackbirds
all in a circle
are fighting for a fry.
One flies off with half,
Two, each a quarter,
and three are left to die.
The one's left to die
fight for each quarter
and chase the other high.
Six little blackbirds
one has the biggest
and wins the social pie.
In comes the female
laying blackbird eggs
to take away their tries.
Three little blackbirds
One that sits up high
and two more left to die.

Humans will upload their consciousness to AI robots and let go of their bodies as food will run out due to catastrophic climate change.
"Lighter skinned or white people"
Ehm….
Bush and Cheney did do 9/11. And ya, AI was spot on that generally men do better work. Your ideology about sex doesn’t matter, facts are facts.
20:00 I am so sick of John Oliver excusing comments like these from non-white people simply because they bash on white people. Racism is racism – and "pale male data" is definitely a racist term.
About time for an update on this…every 90 days, like the current nuclear weapon and green energy count 🫥
I just tried to get on chatgpt but i couldn't send me the email to check to see if my email was real. That makes me question the intelligence of the creators. My husband just told me it can take a month or more to verify your email.
Dang the libs are even during the robots gay 😂
I want to know why nobody at Ars Technica could conjure a better name than Ars Technica. I don't know about the Ars part. Technica's alright. But "Ars"… and why did they draw such empahsis to the Ars, putting it in an orange circle that, I'm sorry, remind one of an ars. Can AI do a better job of naming this company? Anus Electric perhaps. Or, Butthole Digital. The possibilities for innovating here are rich and titillating.
