There are many inaccuracies in the AI explenations: first of all it is not all about machine learning
Ai in the 90s didn't learn (at least in the sense we intend today) and the systems that the tv show was talking about were rule-based that are very different from current AI. Deep learning is a conventional name to recent neural network since the technological advancement that in the 2010s allowed to add more layers of complexity in the AI that lead to better performances
There's a great book about this that anyone interested in this topic should read: "Weapons of Math Destruction".
It argues the big issue with algorithmic models comes down to three components:
1) Opacity (every day people not understanding how models work)
2) They aren't regulated at all
3) Immutability/Irreversibility (very little room to change an AI's mind once it has been programmed to do something. + it imbues the biases of the creator)
+ these issues scale up and are used to make millions of decisions every day (some that have tangible impacts on people's lives…)
You touched on all of these points — great work! Highly recommend this book for further reading/study
ROWAN I'M TOO TRANS AND HIGH FOR THIS
I just really hope we as consumers continue to value human made things higher than AI created things! AI generated anything should be considered public domain since it was built off of public data.
can't tell you how much I appreciate the positive take at the end. All I've heard in regards to this topic are negatives, negatives, negatives and you can really see just how hopeless it's made everyone lately.
"AI art, voices and writing are soulless" ..until they aren't. It's a matter of time, not if.
1. If people don't want companies to fire a lot of people and reduce jobs.. then people MUST STOP supporting those companies. A one to one relationship should then be supported! Like a journalist or content creator using AI to generate content (because let's be honest – people will still use it no matter what), but oversees and polishes it.. then there is one job and one human behind it. People could then support THAT person and not a company that maximizes their earnings by not using people at all.
2. For Art, I think is a lost cause.. no one can really prove what database was used to train it. And if they want to get that information, they would have to get it for EVERYONE creating art using different models. People could also train an AI using art that cannot be traced! Being made by another AI's result. Like money laundering, a long chain of art results makes this a nightmare.
3. For writers, you can change your career.. specially since almost all recent content isn't particularly good anyway, so defending these positions is pointless in my opinion.
People need to ask themseleves, What can I offer that a machine can't?
Art will, as always, find a way to survive. If you can be replaced by machine, maybe you deserve to be replaced by machine. A lot if what we call art today is a repeating regurgitation without deeper significance to human kind.
Also, god bless Europe 🎉
GREAT VIDEO!!!!
17:22 "Are real journalists at risk" … they already write what they are told to, to keep their pay check. So why not fire them and let AI do it.
Capitalism…. again used as a nebulous term for "BAD EVIL BOOGIE MAN!!" not private ownership of ones labor/property (means of production) …… the actual meaning of the word capitalism.
Perhaps it is that humans are just not that exceptional.
We have quite an overestimated assessment of ourselves and our value.
I just found your channel last night and I LOVE the depth and range of perspective you offer keep up the good work!!!
That twist made me want to throw up. I felt it coming and yet it still shocked me to my core
46:10 I KNEW you hadn't used AI to write this, I was wondering who gave you access to the secret GPT-5 they're keeping from us to get such a believable script that was capable of talking about extremely recent events and offer authentically worded sentences that were critical of AI. The current models can certainly pump out listicles that are indistinguishable from the trash that's been on the internet for 20 years, and they're even capable of sometimes expressing a degree of nuance in an opinion piece, but they've certainly got a "voice" to them that sounds like a PR spokesperson with a centrist holding a gun to their back, not that they particularly mind going along with what the centrist believes 99.9999% of the time. I agree with the stuff you say after this though, it's completely true that we have to worry about the fact that capitalism and its inherent contradictions and exploitation will absolutely be unable to prevent an AI apocalypse for millions of workers.
The business world adapted and changed to resist worker organizations. Rather than using their knowledge about psychology to improve the experience and fulfillment of their employees, they use it to coerce and disempower. On the political front, they've spent decades weaving in anti-labor laws, as well as a whole pipeline of misinformation and fear mongering to manipulate laborers against their own interests. I'm afraid that people won't advocate for better until AI does serious damage to the unemployment rate. The great depression gave the US a 25% unemployment rate. At the lower end of job-replaceable-by-AI forecasts we're looking at a rate significantly higher.
My first initial thought was "there's no way AI wrote that script" but also "did AI really write that?" So confused about my ability to recognize it but also relieved when you confirmed it didn't.
it's such a capitalism driven problem which is such a bummer cuz i'd love if it was truly about people not having to do boring/expensive jobs that they don't wanna do (like transcribing interviews), but if it's just about saving money for rich people and there are no supports or new jobs for people losing work… like, fuck
I cant FUCKING STAND ALL THIS "AI AND THE METAVERSE ARE THE FUTURE OF OUR LIVE" bullshit! EVERY FUCKING YOUTUBE AD I GET IS "USE AI TO WRITE A BOOK FOR YOU" i have wanted to be an author since i was 6 i'm 15 now and ai is fucking making my life harder. omfg and the METAVERSE im going to have to abandon my cat claudia bc its illegal to not be in the metaverse i'm so tired of all my best friends using character ai and all this 'To everyone reading this comments Do not use any AI at all and tell everone you know the same!
This vid is so good, thank you for making it
Not sure how the Capitalism thing fits into the topic.. Capitalism is basically 2 or more people making an exchange upon agreement with each getting something out of it and keeping most of what you earn. It isn't perfect and you won't ever find perfection in any man-made system, however it is the only system that has pulled people out of poverty, created prosperity, innovation and excellence..
It ceases being Capitalism, when and if a corporation hops in bed with government kicking the door closed on all competition, giving itself an unnatural monopoly.. Ayn Rand called this a "toxic relationship".. This is also called "Crapitalism", or "Crony Capitalism", even Fascism, but it is not Capitalism as Capitalism also promotes freedom and the others mentioned only give the illusion of it.
As far as Ai goes, as an artist I first despised it.. But learning and messing about with it, I view it as another tool, which is especially helpful to me, as I am working on a project alone at the moment. It has saved so much time and even money. It is disruptive technology that people will learn and use like others before it.
I've seen Ai art win art contest, which I do not like, along with people who try to pass it off as their own art. The thought of some artist not being hired or whatever is sad.. But I look at the current state of entertainment and quite frankly… It sucks. Talent is weak and or you have "writers" who are more concerned with selling political propaganda, rather than tell a great story, so I can't say I feel bad for the writers on strike.. They had this coming, because the work coming out of Hollywood has been very mediocre or just bleh.. There really isn't anything coming out today that will be looked back on as "iconic".. It is all very forgettable and uninteresting.
I don't think AI is anything to worry about. Humanity will feel a renewed sense of purpose when we are lobbing Molotov cocktails at killer bots designed to protect the immortal corporate elite.
Very thorough and insightful video. As a legal translator I'm well aware of the limitations of AI in my field and how it is oversold and used when it shouldn't be. Btw I never doubted you had written that video yourself. Excellent work.
YouTube: The Great Reset Sky News.
That's what's dangerous to humanity.
The thing that frustrates me hugely is that so much of our work can already be automated by computers. A lot of what I see people suggest AI can do, people were already doing with automation 50 years ago. While not everything can be done (visual art, journalism etc), there's a lot that can be done by scripting. The tools to use/create them are present in all major PC operating systems, and similar ones are available on smartphones.
I don't blame people for not knowing (except the tech bros, they should know better), but I do think that when AI does do said things (like sending cold soulless emails that could have been done with mail merge), it'll be using an insane level of power to do what we already can, and it'll probably be slower at doing it.
