They can try, but knowing the government it’ll probably take them 10 years to get a law out. By then, OpenAI would have already created an AGI, and their GPT would have already consumed almost all the data of the internet. Luckily AI development moves MIUCH faster than how fast a government can pass a law. Plus as the world is becoming more dependent on AI companies and many billions/trillions are getting poured into AI development which is happening fast, politicians will be less inclined to get in the way of that. At that point it’ll be like telling Google to shut down all their AI’s because they shouldn’t take our data, lol the world is too dependent on Google it just won’t happen. OpenAI will be in that position soon also
